So many Pre-Paid phone companies! December 01 2016

So many Pre-Paid phone companies!

Pre-paid cell phone plans are becoming an increasingly mainstream idea!  The days of these plans being designed for the customer who couldn’t qualify for a standard monthly plan are long gone. Today we will just go over the very basics behind these pre-paid plans. The question often comes up about where these companies came from and how could they afford to build out networks like Verizon or ATT. Well, they can’t!  These companies do not normally own or build their own networks. Rather they lease existing towers of the BIG 4:  Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile and Sprint. Do you get to use all the towers of each carrier? No. Do you get to use all the towers of even one carrier? No. Here’s what you do get. You get to use a large amount of one carrier’s network. You should have coverage in 85% of the areas that standard customers do and you can get most of the same phones offered by the big guys! I personally would have to say that the largest drawback to some of these pre-paid companies is there customer service. Since many of these plans are sold strictly in large box stores, online or by very small dealers you are most often referred to a 1-800 number. Unfortunately, many of these customer service representatives are not local and many times just not knowledgeable themselves. So in the end you may give up your customer support for a smaller bill with no contract or financed phones to deal with.

The next question becomes why would the BIG 4 give their business away to these pre-paid carriers? Well, they never thought that they would become this popular. When it became apparent that these companies were doing well at taking customers the BIG 4 simply bought out the biggest of them. So Verizon owns Page Plus, ATT owns Cricket, Sprint has Boost and T-Mobile has Metro PCS. There you have it one big happy family again. When purchasing a pre-paid plan the most important thing is to pick one that works-good in your area.  If ATT has the best coverage then you may want to go with Cricket. If Sprint is the best then Boost may be your best choice. For the remainder of this article I will go over which pre-paid carriers work with each of the BIG 4 wireless carriers.  While making the jump from a mainstream carrier to a pre-paid one may be scary it seems that is has been working out great of millions of wireless customers.

So as you can see there are quite few choices these days for pre-paid carriers. They all offer voice and data plans. Some plans start as low as free! As I stated earlier, start by determining which of the BIG 4 carriers works best in your area. Then do a little research on the pre-paid companies and what they can offer you. Boost Mobile, Cricket and Metro PCS all have actual store locations that you can go into and speak with a customer service representative.  Many of the remaining carriers can be purchased at Walmart and other big box stores. We will be previewing some of these carriers over the coming months. We hope you will come back and learn some more with us.
